MCP ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR NUNSENSE!

Middlebury Community Players is excited to announce auditions for our Spring 2026 production, the musical comedy sensation “Nunsense,” by Don Goggin, to be performed at Town Hall Theater April 24 through May 3, 2026. The production is being directed by Peter Kristoph with music direction by Annette Franklin and choreography by Kendra Gratton, who’s also serving as assistant director. Dora Greven is stage managing, and Kush Sharma is producing, mentored by Mary Longey.

“Nunsense” features five good-hearted, well-intentioned female characters who just happen to be nuns! When 52 sisters are accidentally poisoned by the convent’s cook, the remaining five nuns of the Little Sisters of Hoboken put on a musical revue to raise money for the funerals of four still-unburied sisters. Highlighting their “secret talents” from their pre-convent lives, they sing, dance, and entertain their way through a series of vaudeville-like numbers, often with great comic effect.

Audition Details: Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 1:30 pm (registration 1:00–1:30 pm) and Monday, January 12 at 7:00 pm (registration 6:30–7:00 pm) in the Anderson Studio in the new wing of Town Hall Theater, 72–76 Merchants Row, Middlebury. Entrance is through the lower plaza doors. Please come to one audition session only. If you can't attend either of the audition sessions, please contact the director at pkristoph@gmail.com.

You do not need to prepare anything in advance. You will be asked to read a scene or two from the play. And you will be taught a section of a song from the show, as well as a short piece of choreography. A script will be available for perusal at the Town Hall Theater box office, Monday–Friday between 12 noon and 5 pm, in advance of the audition dates.

We are casting the following roles:

SISTER MARY REGINA, MOTHER SUPERIOR (REVEREND MOTHER), 50s–70s. A feisty Sophie Tucker-type who can't resist the spotlight. Vocal range: B3-F5 (Mezzo-Soprano)

SISTER MARY HUBERT, MISTRESS OF NOVICES, 40s-70s. The second in command, she is always competing with the Mother Superior. Vocal range: G3-F5 (Mezzo-Soprano)

SISTER ROBERT ANNE, 20s–40s. A streetwise tough character from Brooklyn and a constant source of aggravation for the Mother Superior. Vocal range: G3-D5 (Alto or Mezzo)

SISTER MARY AMNESIA, 20s–40s. Having lost her memory after a crucifix fell on her head, she is very sweet. Vocal range: Db4-C6 (Soprano)

SISTER MARY LEO, 20s. The novice who has entered the convent with the firm desire to become the first nun ballerina. Some ballet experience a plus, but not required. Vocal range: G#3–G5 (Mezzo-Soprano)

The five actresses will play their characters “straight”—that is, not exaggerated, “campy” versions of nuns. This is key in conveying the infectious humor of the play.

First read-through will be Thursday 1/22/26 at 7pm. Rehearsals will be Sunday afternoons and Tuesday and Thursday evenings each week beginning 1/25/26. Rehearsals may be adjusted based on cast availability.

Moon over Buffalo is a madcap play about a pair of aging traveling actors, George and Charlotte Hay, who are touring with two plays in Buffalo, New York. Their lives are thrown into chaos when they learn that a famous director, Frank Capra, might see their matinee performance and cast them in a movie remake of “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” The play is filled with mistaken identities, family drama, and theatrical mishaps.

Check back in early February for ticket information.

OUR MOST RECENT PRODUCTION

THE ROOMMATE, BY JEN SILVERMAN

Middlebury Community Players’ Company Be, in collaboration with the Bristol Recreation Department, presented the hit Broadway play The Roommate, by Jen Silverman, December 11-13, 2025, in historic Holley Hall in downtown Bristol. This dark comedy explores the unexpected, life-changing friendship that develops when Sharon, who is recently divorced and lives in Iowa, invites Robyn, a total stranger relocating from New York City, to be her roommate. Theirs is a powerful story about personal transformation, life transitions, love, friendship, and identity.

Kimberlee Moyer directed veteran MCP actors Sarah Stone and Jillian Torres, while the production was produced and stage managed by Dora Greven.
