Auditions: Fall 2018 Musical Comedy

MCP will hold auditions for their Fall 2018 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone, on Monday & Tuesday, June 11 & 12, at Town Hall Theater in Middlebury. Registration is 6:30-7:00pm. Please come only one night. Auditioners should be prepared to spend 2-3 hours. There are 9 male roles and 5 female roles, as well as a flexible number of ensemble parts.

Auditioners will be taught two songs from the show, a short dance number, and given scenes from the show to read. There is no need to bring in prepared material.

Rehearsals will begin in late August and will be held evenings and Sunday afternoon. Tech week begins November 25, with shows November 29 – December 2, and December 6 – 9.

The Drowsy Chaperone is presented to the audience by The Man in the Armchair, an agoraphobic theater-lover who regularly cheers himself up by playing an LP from his box of Broadway albums. He puts the record of his favorite show, the 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, on the stereo and when the needle hits the groove, an hilarious pastiche of 1920s’ musicals begins, constantly broken by the interruptions, critiques, and explanations of The Man in the Armchair. The show requires strong comic ability and a feeling for parody and pastiche.
