Swingtime Canteen

Opening July 19

The Middlebury Community Players’ revival of Swingtime Canteen, the “Star Spangled Musical Hit,” a glorious recreation of a USO show at the front in 1944. “The Greatest Generation” pulls together to save the world – and it does it to the beat of the Andrews Sisters and the big bands. Swingtime Canteen fondly looks back to a time universally heralded as America’s finest hour.

“We’re in a war, ladies, and we’ve got to win!”

After 17 years with MGM, still-glamorous movie legend Marian Ames and her friends are entertaining the troops. Get ready for the rip-roaringest canteen show of them all as these 1940s women prove their mettle while they sing over 30 vintage classics from the World War II era. Laughs, tears, emotional fireworks, air raids and a celebration of women during the war punctuate this hilarious and heart-warming story. Songs include: “I’ll Be Seeing You,” “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square,” “Sentimental Journey,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and many more.
